Recent media reporting has, in TrueEV’s view, mischaracterised and sensationalised the company’s current position.
TrueEV was appointed as the exclusive importer and distributor of XPENG vehicles in Australia and, by the nature of that arrangement, relied entirely on XPENG for the ongoing supply of vehicles.
Following a series of events over the past 20 months, XPENG terminated TrueEV’s exclusivity on 1 January 2026 and subsequently ceased supplying vehicles to TrueEV. Without access to new vehicle inventory, the continued operation of XPENG retail locations established by TrueEV was no longer commercially viable.
The closure of the Mascot Experience Centre, together with a number of other XPENG locations originally established through TrueEV’s dealer network, is therefore a direct commercial consequence of the withdrawal of vehicle supply. These closures should not be interpreted as the closure of TrueEV itself.
TrueEV continues to operate and remains focused on its future business activities. At the same time, the company has commenced legal proceedings seeking substantial damages arising from what it alleges was unlawful interference with its contractual rights, business relationships and Australian operations. Those proceedings will provide the appropriate forum for the evidence to be examined and the issues determined by the Court.
TrueEV is confident that the legal process will allow the full circumstances surrounding these events to be properly considered. Until that process is complete, the company will continue to act in its best interests while pursuing the remedies available to it under Australian law.
TrueEV remains proud of the significant investment it made in establishing the XPENG brand in Australia, including its investment in retail infrastructure, dealer development, marketing, customer support and the broader launch of the brand.
